Elyiravëra watched Rissterus watch. She marveled at his magic, and it took her a moment to realize Oswin was offering his hand to help her up to the tree. She took his hand and pulled herself up. As soon as Oswin had started across the tree, Elyiravëra climbed after him. She held both her arms out to assist with balance and began walking across the log. The log was on the narrow side, and she was forced to put one foot in front of the other. About halfway across, Oswin suddenly slipped. Elyiravëra cried out in alarm, reaching out to try to save Oswin. He almost fell into the thundering river, but at the last moment was able to regain his balance. "I'm alright! Be careful, the way is treacherous!" Elyiravëra stepped forwards to make sure he was okay, but when she had reached out to try to save Oswin, she had lost part of her balance. Her foot slid off the log into the empty air. She tried to twist around in midair so she could grab the log, but she missed it by a hair. Elyiravëra fell towards the foaming Ûstov.

Suddenly Oswin's hand caught hers, stopping her fall. Oswin had seen her fall from the corner of his eye and turned around on the log, almost slipping in the process. He had jumped towards her, landing on his stomach on top of the log, and reached out just in time to catch her. Oswin's legs hung off the other edge of the log, and would've slid off if he hadn't been holding on to Elyira. He tried to swing his other arm down grab her hand but he couldn't quite make it. His muscles were starting to burn from the Elf's weight. The rain was coming down in light sheets, but it had managed to worm its way inbetween Oswin and Elyira's already wet hands. He felt his grip slipping. If Elyira fell, so would he. The only thing that had stopped them was the fact that they both were hanging onto each other.

Rissterus stood on the opposite end of the tree, awaiting his companions. His eyes widened slightly when Oswin stumbled, Elyira fell, and Oswin tried to save her. He thrust his Staff of Demise into the the ground, then started to walk back across the log. Though every footstep was well placed, it still took Rissterus many precious seconds to reach them. He carefully dropped to one knee next to Oswin. "Hold on," he muttered. He reached down towards Elyiravëra. "Give me your other hand."

Elyiravëra looked up at Rissterus, then tried to swing her right arm over her left to grab Rissterus' hand. She couldn't reach, so she tried again, putting more swing into the movement. Her left shoulder screamed in pain, forcing her to stop. "I can't," she said breathlessly. Oswin wasn't the only one getting tired. Her arm felt like it was going to come off. She tried to bring her right hand up to Oswin's instead of Rissterus. She did it easily and just hung there for a second, letting her left arm rest for a moment before she tried to reach back to Rissterus.

Rissterus' jaw tightened in determination. He wasn't going to let either of them fall. He would need them both in the future, he knew that for a fact. He saw what Elyira was doing but didn't say anything, not wanting to disturb her concentration. When she successfully took Oswin's hand, but didn't try to reach back up to him, frustration gripped Rissterus. "Give me your hand," he repeated, unintentionally allowing his voice to grow hard.

Elyiravëra shut her eyes, then suddenly swung her arm up, catching Rissterus's arm above the wrist. She then pulled as hard as she could, bringing herself much closer to the log. The effort was excrutiating, as she was pulling her entire body weight with one arm.

Rissterus also pulled, bringing her up even faster. When she was close enough, Rissterus moved his right arm under her left shoulder and held firmly onto her back, letting go with his left hand so he could grip the tree once again. Holding Elyira was harder than he anticipated, and it didn't help when Oswin suddenly said he was slipping. Rissterus twisted at his torso, swinging his left arm up and around the tree. He barely grabbed onto Oswin's cloak. Oswin was significantly heavier than Elyira, and Rissterus expected the monk to dislocate his shoulder. Instead of trying to stop Oswin from falling completely, he allowed him to continue slipping down. This forced Rissterus to fall backwards, but it saved Rissterus' shoulder. Instead of being dislocated, it was now only in extreme pain. A hiss escaped his pain as he fought the scream of agony away.

Somehow, the movement ended up pulling Elyiravëra back up to the log too. She pulled herself off Rissterus' chest, then tried pulling herself back completely onto the log. It wasn't difficult, as her it was only her legs that weren't already on the log, but she cut her right arm on a severed branch end. She winced, then noticed Rissterus and Oswin. They looked very... Uncomfortable? No, that wasn't descriptive enough. In pain? Well, Rissterus maybe, but Oswin just looked - Elyiravëra snapped back to reality and crawled forwards to help them. She half climbed over Rissterus to reach down to take Oswin. She was unable to grab his cloak around the shoulder-neck area, so she settled for his sleeve. Oswin was too heavy for her on her own, but she significantly relieved the load for Rissterus.

Rissterus exhaled, sending a cloud of steam into the air. He tried to roll over onto his stomach, but it was difficult because he still had to hold onto Oswin, and Elyira was trying to crawl over him. He spat a strand of her wet hair out of his mouth, then brought his knees up onto the edge of the log. "Let go!" he shouted to Elyira. He was now able to haul Oswin up himself, now that he had both his hands free again.

Oswin firmly gripped Rissterus' hands and pulled. He gritted his teeth in pain as his muscles burned. He felt himself rising, and he was able to let go of Rissterus with one hand and grab the tree instead. He adjusted his grip, then grabbed hold with his other hand. He tried swinging his leg up, but slipped and fell back to his hanging position. Rissterus caught his cloak just in case, but Oswin didn't fall. He tried again, and this time Rissterus caught his leg and pulled him up. Oswin clung to the tree for a moment, catching his breath. "Okay," he said, breathing hard. "Let's get away from this accursed river." Oswin pushed himself up and started crawling after Rissterus and Elyira towards the opposite bank.

Rissterus leapt off the log onto firm ground. He held his left shoulder which was throbbing in pain. He had injured it when he caught Oswin. It wasn't as bad as it could've been, but it still hurt. He stepped over to his staff and pulled it out of the ground. He looked back towards the log. Oswin had safely reached the bank. That was more trouble than it was worth, he thought, gazing at the log and river.

Elyiravëra leaned against a tree, catching her breath. She looked over at the log. After a moment, she lowered her head and started laughing. Rissterus looked over at her. "What is it?" She looked up, still laughing. "This is rediculous," she replied, looking from Oswin to Rissterus. "We just almost died."

Oswin sat down on the opposite bank to catch his breath. He had lost his quarterstaff to the roaring rapids, and there was probably no way to get it back now. He sighed. It was a very good staff and had served him well.
Oswin has lost a Quarter Staff (+2).
He looked up at Elyira when she started laughing. After Rissterus' inquiry and Elyira's answer, a smile came to Oswin's lips. He wasn't about to start laughing, but he knew what she meant. It was rather funny, in a way. They had knocked a tree down over a roaring river when the bridge could be seen in the distance, and when they tried to cross it, they all almost drowned. He looked humorously at the Sorcerer. Somehow Oswin decided it was his fault.

Rissterus looked from Elyira to Oswin. Somehow he didn't find the situation funny. He stepped back towards the log and planted his foot firmly on the end. "Oswin, assist me." Together, the Sorcerer and Priest pushed the log slowly back towards the river. Loose rock and earth cascaded into the river as the log began to roll free on its own. It fell into the river and the tip snapped off. The end of the log on the other bank came free and it slid down into the river. The rapids started to pull it down stream at a brisk pace. When it was out of sight, Rissterus turned, pleased that no one would now use the bridge. If someone wanted to cross, they'd have to make their own bridge. "Come," Rissterus said to his companions, once they had all recovered somewhat. "It's still raining, and the day is still passing. It will be nightfall soon and I, for one, would like to be at an inn by then."

Elyiravëra re shouldered her pack. "As would I," she agreed, starting to follow him. "But I'm exhausted," she added, more to herself then to anyone else. As she walked, she pulled her right sleeve up to the elbow, revealing the cut she had acquired in the whole log episode. She let her pack slide down to her arm where she was able to reach in and withdraw a clean shirt. After moving the pack back onto her back, Elyiravëra scrunched it into a ball and wiped the cut clean. Then she repositioned the wad of cloth so a clean side was pressed firmly to the cut. It stung, but it hurt significantly less than it had moments before. She kept her sleeve up as she walked so she could keep the cloth on the cut the whole time. Finishing her task, Elyiravëra fell into the mindless rhythm of walking, keeping sure to stay in Rissterus' footsteps.
