So now he was a part of them. Great. The Crusaders were meant to build up the espirit-de-corps of the Warrior guild. They were supposed to be the "elite" warriors in the guild. After the original twelve were killed there really was no one else to take their place. So the King began throwing recruits into the ranks of Crusaders just to keep it alive. A hardy lie...

He rode alongside the other four. He wanted to get this over with and maybe see home again.

The five Crusaders rode for several days, till they neared the end of the mountain range. Scheff called a stop, as they neared the end of the day.
"Rest up. We're almost upon the Dark Paladin's last known location. "We'll set up double watches tonight."

Scheff stayed up all night on watch with one of the others. The next morning, they prepared to move on. The Dark Paladin was last seen in one of the mountain villages. An hour's ride from their camp brought them to the village. Or remains of the village. Blackened houses and huts were half-destroyed. Bodies were all over the ground. A fresh layer of snow half-covered the terrible sight.

Scheff dismounted. "Look for survivors!"

Strider rode up next to him. What the hell were they supposed to do with survivors? "Sir, with all due respect, there's really nothing we could do for any survivors, whether there are any or not. We have no rations or medical supplies to spare. And immobilized bodies will slow us down."

[~ Hero Nemesis ~]

Scheff looked over at Strider. "Learn your place," he snapped. "Our duty is to search for survivors. We are Warriors. Defenders of the defensless." He started walking through the ruins.
"Besides," he said to himself. "There aren't any survivors, anyway."

One of the Crusaders bent down and looked at some tracks. "This is two days old. The attack."
Scheff looked over at him. "Then Sxim Torath isn't near."
A short search of the village proved there were no survivors. Again, Scheff said a couple words over the dead, then they mounted and moved on.

"My place? My place is back in Lebonwaith where I'll do some good." He said to himself.

He rode on, following them. He hoped they would find this knight soon. His steel boots were cold. His feet were freezing.

They left the village, and rode on. Hours later, they stopped suddenly.
"Up ahead! There is a cabin!" Scheff said, pointing to a building made half of stone and half of log.

One of the Crusader's leaned over to Stylas. "That must be Sxim Torath's dwelling. It reeks of evil."

[Sunstrider]

"Everything here seems to..." He replied. He was eager for battle. He wanted to defeat the Paladin and return to Minas Rithes.
This cabin, unguarded like it was, was their first ray of hope.

Scheff drew his sword, and all the others followed suit. They started walking cautiously towards the cabin. As they drew near, everything looked normal, except for the heavy dread that seemed to hang over the cabin.

Scheff decided that if the Dark Paladin was here, than he would already know they were here.
"Break the door down."

Stylas and one of the others rammed their shoulders against the door and ot flung open. Scheff and the other two leapt in, ready for combat. Stylas and the other Crusader came in behind them.

They entered into a large open room, with a roaring fire. at the end of the room, there was a staircase that spiraled up and met with a bridge that crossed over the room to the other side. On the bridge, stood the Dark Paladin, Sxim Torath.

Stylas would have been the first to throw himself at the killer had he no discipline. He waited for Scheff's orders.

He looked up at the Dark Paladin. He would be a powerful opponent indeed. The men of the village stood no chance, though it was probable that he had Goblin aid in the attack.

Scheff and the Dark Paladin were locked in a staredown. Finally, after several moments, Scheff raised his great broadsword and shouted. "ATTACK!!"
They all rushed forwards, towards the staircase. The Dark Paladin raised his staff of demise and unleashed a powerful blast of manna at the head Crusader, enveloping him.

5 atk + 4 weapon + 10 MP + [dice=6]

The Crusader was enveloped and was sent back by the powerful blast.

Four Crusaders reached the stairs. The first to reach the top rushed at the Dark Paladin who had set aside his staff and drew two swords hidden inside his cape. Sxim lunged forwards, blocking the downward chop and rammed his other sword through the Crusader's chest. He kicked him off his sword and the body crashed through the railing.

Three Crusaders were now left.

Strider leapt onto the bridge and charged the Paladin, swinging his heavy sword hard at his midsection.

Sxim Torath leapt off the bridge down to the floor, rolling to break the fall. He must've also used magic to prevent him from getting hurt. (5 MP)

Sxim thrust his sword into the body of the first Crusader he had killed and pulled his staff off his back. He pointed it at Stylas and unleashed a blast of black flame.

Stylas dodged the blast. But it was a respectable size and he had to bring his sword up to block himself from the outer edge of the blast.

Resolution:
16 - 14 = 2 + 2 Brst = 4 Damage

Tha blase bent around the strong edge of his sword and grazed him. The armor helped to keep him from serious harm.

The Crusader, who was at the back of the line, turned and ran back down. He charged at Sxim, swinging his sword viciously.

Scheff turned and started to go back down the stairs. Sxim dropped his staff and pulled his other sword out of its improvised sheath and swung both swords towards the Crusader's neck.

The crusader stumbled backwards, raising his sword.
