Erk Retuke and Taj Rahk'onPosting order: Hero Nemesis, Taj Rahk'on, Erk Retuke If Taj and Retuke are simply talking, then you may skip the Hero Nemesis. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The ocean was a beautiful sight. Especially at dawn. And dawn it was, in the harbour city of Torthas in the Territory of Lebonwaith. Taj Rahk'on found himself on the docks of the harbour, assisting with the loading of cargo on a vessel bound for Tan Quan. He had bought passage on The Swift Cloud which was headed to Tan Quan with a wide variety of cargo, including the very expensive cannon oil. He wished to go to Tan Quan to see a master swordsman who would instruct him in the ways of the warrior. The overseas route to Tan Quan was both quicker and more reliable than the overland route, and even somewhat less dangerous. Taj had been able to spare his purse from the lengthy passenger fee by offering his services as a sailor. Erk Retuke the Mage also found himself on the docks of Torthas' harbour. His destination was also Tan Quan, for he wished to learn fro one of the Great Mages. Coincidentally, he had also bought passage on The Swift Cloud, offering his services as cook. So these two heroes, Human Warrior and Elf Mage, find themselves together again, bound for the same place on the same ship. The captain of The Swift Cloud, H'engkal, a broad-shouldered, powerful man who comes from Tan Quan, is supervising the loading of the cargo. It is apparent that they are running late, for they are to leave in but three hours. He calls down for the crewmen to hurry up. The sun is rising in the east, casting a golden glow over the dark green water. And it is in this location that Taj and Retuke find themselves in.

Taj was working in a chain with the other crewmembers of The Swift Cloud passing her cargo from the docks up to the ships deck where it was finally lowered by a rope pulley system down to the ships storage hold.
Being part of the sailing crew Taj only had a half hour of labour to go before he was to report to the Captain for disembarking orders, He stopped a brief moment to stretch his back and take in the beautiful sight that was the sun rising over the ocean giving off the day's first light..
"Hurry up you scurvy dogs all i'll av' ya'll sailing nightshift" Came the voice of the captain, H'engkal, whom was a dark skinned man with a grin as wide as the horizon itself was a strict Captain, as strict as any merchant Captain who made his money on time but he was quick with a smile and therefor easily likeable..
Taj let out a grin himself as he bent down and picked up a barrel of the expensive cannan oil, carrying on his shoulder he made his way up the boardwalk to The Swift Cloud.

Retuke emerged suddenly from the cargo hold. Though he was just going to be the ship's cook, he had helped with the organizing of the cargo so he would know where the provisions were. As he came back onto the deck, he was greeted by the dawn light. Last time he was on deck it had still been dark. He walked over towards the ship's rail and looked out at the rising sun.
"Hurry up you scurvy dogs all i'll av' ya'll sailing nightshift!" Captain H'engkal shouted, causing Retuke to turn. The comment hadn't been directed at him, though. It was aimed towards one of the sailors. Retuke looked at him.
He doens't look very much like a sailor...Wait a minute. His eyes narrowed as he recognized Taj. He strode towards him.
"Taj Rahk'on, is it not?" he said from behind him.
((ooc/ All I could come up with. =| If you think they should already know they were both on the ship, then I can edit. ))

Taj just had just given the barrel of cannon oil to another worker who loaded it onto the pulley system to be lowered,
"Taj Rahk'on, is it not?" Said a familiar voice behind him..
He spun around and saw Retuke, a mage he had met whilst working on a Caravan through the BrokePeak Mountains.
"Retuke, How are you friend? What are you doing aboard The Swift Cloud?"
Taj wondered if it was Fate or Chance that brang the two together again..

A smile spread over Retuke's face as his suspicions were confirmed. Taj greeted him with grin. "Retuke, How are you friend? What are you doing aboard The Swift Cloud?" "I am bound for Tan Quan where I hope to learn under one of the Great Mages." He reached over and clasped Taj's forearm in official greeting. "It's good to see you my friend. I had no idea you were on board."

"Ah this is strange, it seems fate has thrown us together again Retuke, I must return to work but i'll catch up with you tonight? Im sure it wont be hard to find you"
With a wave he walked back down the gangwalk and started loading another barrel onto his shoulder..
A few girls, wives & children, mistress's & fond parents had come to wave farewell to the crew of The Swift Cloud. Taj had trouble smiling and waving at more than one pretty girl he was close to without them noticing thier competition, he managed but was glad he was getting away from Minas Rithes for a while as he suspected he wasn't as secretive as he would of wanted.

Retuke nodded. "I'll see you later. Good day," he said turning. Taj disappeared down the gangplank, and Retuke found himself heading down to the ship's galley. He needed to accustom himself to the different things he could use in for cooking throughout the voyage...

They finished loading within the hour. H'enkal strode down the deck, shouting orders. Eventually, "Raise the gangplank!" was shouted. A group of tanned sailors hoisted it up with ropes, and the Captain called, "Set the sails!" The sails began to unfurl, and the voyage began. Calls from the wharf could be heard until they were past half-way through the bay.
Taj found himself busy with H'enkal's orders most of the day, and Retuke busied himself preparing the dinner for the crew. By night time, both were weary, but in good spirits. Several days passed, and the Táic Sea was calm with a wind blowing from the East. For a week, the weather held and it was perfect for sailing. On the 8th day, the clouds darkened, the wind grew, and the waves increased. Ominous thunder could be heard in the background.
The next morning, rain came. It grew steadily worse throughout the day. By evening, it was a storm. H'enkal issued orders like crazed man and expletives often filled the air. Retuke, who had been below deck trying to keep his cooking supplies from falling over was suddenly called to the deck. Every man was needed to help in the storm.
Retuke and Taj suddenly found themselves together and H'enkal ran towards them. "What are you doing standing around like that!? Get up to those masts and tie up the foresail!"
To climb the rigging up to the foresail in the storm, roll an agility check. Required roll: 7

Taj ran from the front of the ship almost slipping over the edge, he stopped when he saw Retuke standing in awe at the fierce storm that was brewing in the skies..
"Fine weather were having!" He yelled jokingly above the howling of the wind.. A grin was spread accross his face showing he held no fear of the ocean & her tempormental violent moods..
H'engkal came running over..
With a slap to the back of Taj's head he shouted orders.. "What are you doing standing around like that!? Get up to those masts and tie up the foresail!"
Taj's grin vanished and he grabbed ahold of a nearby rope pulling himself nimbly up to the rigging he began the climb up the mast to the forsail, Already other sailors were pulling ropes around him that were bringing up the sails.

Retuke tried to force a smile in reply to Taj's joke. However, it ended up being a rueful smile that showed plainly that he wasn't enjoying the situation. He could stand storms on land, but on the sea, they were 10 times worse. He wasn't fond of the sea, and he had hoped this voyage would be made in decent weather.
"What are you doing standing around like that!? Get up to those masts and tie up the foresail!" the Captain shouted, coming up behind them.
Retuke looked up at the mast, rigging, and sails, squinting because of the rain. He paled. "I can't do th-" he started to say, but before he he could finish, Taj had already started climbing up the rigging. Retuke clenched his teeth and turned to follow. This wasn't why he came. This is sailor work. I'm a Mage!
He put one hand above the other and slowly began climbing.

Taj: 4 + 4 = 8 Retuke: 3 + 3 = 6
Taj managed to climb the rigging, but below him, Retuke missed a handhold and slipped. He fell down several feet but managed to grab hold of the rigging again. He stopped his fall, but in the process he strained his arm.
Damage to Retuke: [dice=6] x 2 = 4
Retuke: MP: 16/20 HP: 10/10
Above, Taj had reached the foresail and began to tie it up. Still, the winds were blowing, the rains falling, and the waves were still tossing the ship back and forth. Taj had to keep himself from being thrown into the ocean as well as hoisting up the sail.
Taj: Roll another agility check to make sure you don't fall. Required Roll: 7 Retuke: Roll another agility check to climb the rigging. Reuired Roll: 7

Retuke clung onto the rigging with his eyes shut. He was lucky and he knew it. If he hadn't grabbed hold of the ropes, then he would've been cast into the raging waves. The ship probably wouldn't've been able to save him. He opened his eyes and looked up. Taj was up there all alone, trying to secure the sail. Gritting his teeth, Retuke tried again to climb up to the foresail.

Taj: Success. Retuke: Success.
Taj managed to tie his end up, but he couldn't descend or even let go of it until Retuke tied his end. If he did, the rope would not be able to hold the weight of the sail, since one end was still free.
Retuke was successful in climbing up the rigging and he reached the foresail. All that was now needed was for him to raise his end, and descend.
Retuke: To tie the foresail, roll an agility check. Required Roll: 7

Retuke clutched hold of the spar, then carefully inched out to where his position was supposed to be. He let go of the hand-hold rope with one hand and lowered himself down onto the yard. He began to pull on the ropes in order to raise the sail. He looked over at Taj, knowing that the warrior was depending on him.
