It was a sunny day in Lebonwaith. The cool air of winter kissed the sweat on Brother Buulstus' brow. "A fine day thee chose to embark on such a righteous pilgrimage, Brother Columbanis!" One Priest said to another.
"Indeed, my friend." They wore the clean white robes of their guild. They were traveling abroad to the small port city of Acre, on the eastern shorefront of Lebonwaith. There was a temple being constructed there and upon completion, the two travelers were to begin their holy work in Acre.
They rounded a bend in the road and saw the first gull of their voyage. Columbanis smiled and turned his head to say something to Brother Buulstus just as a whistle and a thwunk echoed in the cool air.
A black arrow struck Buulstus in the chest and sunk in deep. He cried out. His immediate pleas were to the gods for protection.
"Gods protect us!" Columbanis cried as he got down from his mount and rushed to his Brother's side. Thunder cracked and squeals from the trees ahead were heard as their assailants fled.
The town was near. Columbanis helped the injured Priest onto his horse and held him steady as he rode quickly into town.
"Stay here with this good inn keeper, Brother Buulstus. I will get help! Be not afraid, he is a good man." And with that, he was gone, hurrying to Adenwar to fetch aid from the Cathedral.

Oswin rode hard from Adenwar - something priests didn't normally do. But he had cause to ride hard now. One of the holy brethren was dying and he had to get there and heal him. Oswin had with him his quarterstaff, his ceremonial dagger, and a few other items.
Oswin rode down the road, moving from Adwenwar to Lebonwaith.

He was nearing the Port City of Acre when suddenly a heavy, and extremely long, black arrow sailed an inch from his face and hit the ground near him. It was instantly apparent what had happened to poor Buulstus. Oswin rode faster. He couldn't defend himself against an enemy he was unable to see. He was nearly a mile from the city gates. Ride faster good horse. Ride fast, ride steady.
He looked back over his shoulder at the path behind him. He was being pursued by not just a few Orcs, but a Troll. The goblins squealed into the cold air, their breath blowing out in a white plume from in between their mangled jaws. They ran sideways, galloping at ungodly speeds. The Troll however, was moving slower and heavier. His clumsy feet made impressions in the path and shattered fragile ice patterns on the nearby trees.

Oswin looked back and saw the Troll. A shiver went down his spine, and it wasn't due to the cold air. Oswin looked ahead once more and urged his horse on further. He hoped the city of Acre had guards who would help take down this monsterous beast. He looked back, and feared he might have to fight them himself. He may be decent with a quarterstaff, but he wasn't actually trained to fight...

The troll let out a menacing howl that shook the ground beneath the horses hooves. The city came into view just around the bend in the road. He may have time to make it inside the dropped gate. A peasant woman was walking towards the city on the side of the road, a large basket over her hear. Oswin was close by to her as the Troll howled. She turned and saw them charging towards them and screamed loudly.

Oswin pulled on his reins and dismounted. The woman would never make it without his help. "Can you ride?" he shouted to her. He looked back at the troll and goblins. They were gaining. He would have to hold them off if he was to save this woman. "Get on the horse and ride! Ride to the city and call for help!" He was pulling his quarterstaff off the saddle as he spoke.

She didn't want to leave him there to die but she had no choice. She couldn't help him and would only get in the way. She thanked him and got onto the horse, riding hard into the city to get help.
There was a squeal as a Goblin went airborn. This one was unarmed, if you didn't include his sharpened claws and flesh-ripping teeth. As he came down towards the Priest, time seemed to slow.

Oswin brought his staff up, holding at the ends, so that the Goblin would run into the middle and he could shove him back.

The Goblin grunted and fumed at the failed attack as one of his brethren came up behind Oswin.
He defended to give time to the second Goblin.

There was a shriek and a heavy crunching thud as the troll arrived on the scene. Its heavy bone club was painted in blood, a mess of black hamburger laying limp in its wake. Goblin 4 lay gored and out of the fight. The beast roared, throwing its arms wide as if it had reason to feel intimidating after killing its companion.
There was a soft whistle in the background as Oswin turned to see the Troll. Behind him flew a multitude of swarming arrows, diving like killer bees straight for all three of them. Oswin turned at the whistle and began to run towards Acre, his only chance of surviving now. He could run or be pinned to the ground by the hail of arrows. Deep down in his gut he knew that if he was immobilized and the troll was still standing after the arrows fell, that he would come to a certain painful, bloody death at the tip of that menacing bone in the Troll's left hand.
He ran. (Agility Check)
