Seraphin's face broke in a sharp O of alarm. She acted quickly, forgetting her fatigue in the adrenline brought from casting a spell. But still, it wasn't strong enough.. I guess I'll have to do this the nonmagical way... She brought her staff down resoundently against the man's back again and again. She started whacking his head, but was afraid to hit Retuke. An idea came into her head. She was never a very religious person, but Seraphin knew basically how a benediction worked. If she wove what little power she had into the staff, and thanked and begged the gods for power, she should be able to make the staff holy enough to drive the monster away...maybe. (I luff you Z. I do love killing zombies. ^_^)

The light burned. His vision was so blinded, that the staff did not appear white; instead, his view of the staff went black, as the blessing has burned away part of his vision.
Z thrashed at Seraphin violently, using only part of his eyes. He tried clutching the staff...
The result was the hot smell of burnt flesh. The holy magic burned off the tissue on his right hand and arm, until the dry bones were all that was left. The heat was so fast and immense that the skin blew away like dust.
Z backed away from the guildmaster, and lunged again at her ally.
He did not ignore her presence this time, and he sent nearby bones of long dead creatures at her at incredible speed. Like thrown daggers of bone.
He made well sure not to get stopped by her again.

Retuke cried out in surprise and alarm when Z suddenly lunged at him. He fell back onto the snow with Z on top of him. He tried to resist the ... man? but he wasn't nearly a match for him. Seraphin came to the rescue, clubbing Z with her staff. Retuke couldn't really tell what was happening, but Retuke found himself free from his attacker. He got to his feet, just as Z began to attack again. This time, however, Retuke threw his whole body weight against Z, knocking them both to the floor. Hopefully this would distract him and his aim would be off with his bone darts.
Once on the cave floor, Retuke began to attempt to grapple with Z, weak as he was. Perhaps he could wrestle Z into a position where Seraphin could strike him again with her staff.

Z wrestled against Retuke. He has not fed in some time, and his powers were draining from him. He felt sluggish, and his senses were blurred. The adrenaline rush needed energy, and that was something Z had little of. He tried to resist, but struggling against one of the two magi was tough. He could only wait to see Seraphin's action. He knew he couldn't die, but that didn't keep him from the overwhelming fear that engulfed him.

Seraphin looked from the lich to Retuke. She couldn't swing now, for fear of hitting Retuke. But finally Retuke twisted away. She swung heavily...and felt something pierce her arm. Darts of bone were protruding, and the pain was almost unbearable. Because of the attack, she had missed and set herself off balance. Melee combat had never been her forte. But now she was really messed up.. she had provided an open hole for Z, without realizing it.
The hand that wasn't clutching the staff for life was attempting to pull the darts out. But would they splinter? One of them broke in her hand, and cut it open.

His mind was fading.
His body began to rapidly decay.
Skin was fading away by the second. Visible bones were revealing themselves through the thin layer of skin.
Z tried to muster enough strength to strike the mage while she was open for attack, but all but his soul was gone. He has lost.
Perhaps it was their great aura of power, or the holy light that slowly burned away his power, but either way, Z could not fight anymore.

Seraphin knew what she had to do. She had learned it long ago, traveling with her sister, and at that time, a very talkative priest. They had come across a creature of the night, and the priest had used a seal of some sort, a seal of repenting light. She remembered exactly what he had done as well. "Creature, though you are d**ned, I seal thee with this repenting light! If you can feel your sins, you may live again!" She swung her staff in an arc, and watched, privately amazed, as the almost blinding white light bound the creature, freeing Retuke, who was likewise stunned.

The spell didn't hurt, but it certainly surprised Z. While not physically harming him, it restricted his movements to a minimum. An invisible circle of approximately three feet surrounded him, and forced any part of him back.
His claw of bone lashed out at Seraphin. His hand didn't go far, as the seal blasted back his entire arm with such force that the bone of his arm shattered, held only by a few splinters and the dark magic holding them together.
He thought before attacking again, and instead of lunging at either of the two, he looked at his broken arm, just swaying back and forth.
He grabbed his right hand, and broke it off in one motion. The bones, now detached from his body, all fell to the ground, making soft 'clicks' as they hit.
From where his arm used to be, the bone was slowly reforming and regenerating itself. Despite the slow pace, it was fast enough to be visible.
He could no longer attack them, and tried to calm down. What used to be two forms of threatening light, were slightly glowing elves. His vision was coming back, and the black spot in his eye has healed.
Not everything was normal, though. His body had little energy, and his "living" appearance was dissipating. The skin around his regenerating bone arm was disintegrating. During the struggle he had been hit in the jaw, and now the bottom left corner of his face had no flesh at all. It was a frightening appearance, and made him appear as if he was grinning all the time.
"Hmmm...." His voice sounded calm. Normal. "It seems we have a predicament."

Retuke was knocked off of Z by Seraphin's spell. He was exhausted, and didn't even try to get back up. Instead, he watched in amazement at what was happening to the lich. When it seemed to be over, Retuke wanted to swear, but no sound came out. Z was hideous to look at, but Retuke couldn't take his eyes off of him.
Seraphin never ceases to amaze me.
"What... what are you?" Retuke managed to say, after the human-like thing broke the silence.

For the time being, Z didn't answer the mage.
"So you too have come to slay the almighty 'Lich King'? Heh, I must say that you two are probably the closest out of all of them. Why must you d**n people pester me?!"
As he spoke, he rapidly became more and more agitated. Before he became lost in his own rage, he calmed down, breathed slower, and regained his posture.
"If you are so interested to know, I have to tell you that there is no easy answer for such an abstract question. I am both the puppet, and the hand." He focused heavily on his right hand, which was regenerating quite well. The process was almost finished, with the fingers being healed as he spoke.
Now that his mind was cleared, and his vision settled, he realized that he recognized the male mage. He kept this information to himself.
"What lord sent you here now? Honestly, they think this were some sort of sport."

Retuke's eyes were glued to Z's regenerating limb. It was morbidly fascinating. But what Z was saying didn't make any sense to Retuke. He glanced over at Seraphin and gave her a "huh?" look. They hadn't come to pester the lich! Z had been the one who attacked, not them!

Seraphin was set aback. This couldn't be the lich's cave..but it was, apparently. "Sir I assure you. We were sent here by no lord. We've just gotten out of a spot of trouble in Adenwar, and teleported here, and stumbled around, looking for a cave. This was the first we found. I'm the Master of the Mages Guild, Seraphina Nebane." She was going to continue, but found it prudent to stop there. As it was, they had disturbed this creatures resting place, and rather rudely. If she only knew how to repay him..

"Seraphina? The guildmaster? Hmm...."
He started pacing, with what little space he had inside the seal.
"So be it." He said this in a factual tone. "I am sorry." As if on command, the seal surrounding him glowed a slight light, then shattered like glass.
"It was that easy?" He looked confused for a minute, realizing that he was free.
"Manners are in accord. Wait here. I will be back."
He suddenly walked past the two magi, heading towards the door.
Before he stepped out into the white mountain, he paused, and waved his hand in a gesture.
The pile of bones in the corner erupted with green hellfire. The flames brightened the cave with an emerald glow.
Z stepped out without saying another word.

Retuke remained where he had fallen, a bewildered look on his face. Seraphin began to explain to Z what they were doing, and then Z stepped out of the cave. Retuke got to his feet, eying the putrid flames warily.
"Seraphin, what is going on?" he asked, when he was sure Z was out of earshot. "Who is that? What is that?"

Seraphin looked over at Retuke. "That, my dear friend, is common courtesy. Oh, you mean the man? He appeared to be a man once..he must have come back from the dead, so a lich in laymans terms.. The fire he cast was very kind, if a tad bit smelly. I believe he is a sorcerer. He could cast magic, but he didn't show me the respect you or..or Malakai would.." She quieted near the end, remembering her most likely fallen friend and comrade. She had abandoned him! What sort of guildmaster would do that to her own apprentice! And so to save her own neck! She considered herself filth, the bottom layer of people, uncaring.
Gloomily, Seraphin stared into the flames after helping Retuke up.
